Quilters United in Learning Together will host the annual “Airing of the Quilts” for their May 24 meeting.
Weather permitting, quilters will display their work along the rail fence at 3302 W. Perry Road in Rogers, near Target and Pinnacle Hills Promenade.
The roots of airings go deep in American’s history. Pioneer women would take their utilitarian quilts outside to air after a long winter.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m., and members and their guests are asked to bring a side dish, place setting and a chair. Those displaying quilts are reminded to bring something to put under the quilt in order to protect them.
Visitors are welcome to drive by and look at the colorful display.
QUILT’s regular meetings are the fourth Thursday of the month, except in May and November and December when the meetings are combined on the first Thursday of December. Meetings are at the Springdale Holiday Inn, 1500 S. 40th St., at 7 p.m.

Hansen is listed in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICAN QUILTING. She is the editor of QUILT ART ENGAGEMENT CALENDAR, which features the work of regional quilters, and the ADDRESS & BIRTHDAY BOOK, featuring miniature quilts and their stories.

Hansen’s's quilts have been in many invitational shows both in the US and Europe. Her AMISH INFLUENCES exhibit of 12 wall quilts was in  during the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.

Teaching is Hansen’s area of greatest interest. A trip to Japan’s International Quilt Expo in Tokyo (1,000 quilts) gave her a new focus for her popular exchange quilt classes and lots of new ideas to share.

This will be a great opportunity for us to get feedback from an internationally recognized quilter, so please consider having your quilts judged in the show. Quilts may be exhibited without judging.

Volunteers are always needed, so think about what time you can give, and be in touch with your quilt show committee about your willingness to help.

Our small quilt auction is a necessary component for our financial health. So please think about donating a quilt to the auction. Auction Chairwoman Therese Ramsey is ready and willing to accept small quilts — you don’t have to wait until next year. And she isn’t picky about the size!

And, as time draws near, think about what you can do to help publicize the auction. You show committee is doing everything we can to get the word out, but the more people talking up the opportunity to own a piece of fabric art, the better.

There is also an opportunity for you to spread your design wings with our guild challenge. This year’s theme is “Holiday”, and we mean any holiday! The kicker is that a recognizable churn dash block must be included in the quilt. Chairwoman Debbie Wheeler can answer your questions, but specifics regarding size are under  the “Quilt Show” page on this blog and on our Facebook page.

I (Leeanna) understand how nerve-wracking it can be when someone says “design a quilt”. It’s not my strong suit. However, nothing says you can’t use someone else’s design as a springboard, as long as you properly credit that designer.
