Kathy Garringer is going to be doing a class on selvages at retreat.
If it won’t interfere with the design of your quilt top, would you please save your selvages for our retreat? Kathy says best size cut is 1-1/2 inches wide by however long it is. But at the very least 1/2″ into the fabric from the inside selvage edge.
I will have a bag to collect the selvages up through September at the Guild meetings & Airing of the Quilts.
Thanks! ~ Toni Fenton
Come one Come all!!! The 2011 Quilt Show will be April 8 and 9 from 9:00 to 6:00 each day. Entry fee is $5.00 and children under 12 are free! See the quilt show page for directions to the Benton County Fairgrounds! We’ll see ya’ll there!
During the quilt show Carol Elmore, an AQS certified appraiser, will be available to appraise quilts. She charges $40 and you pay her at the time of the appraisal. The signup sheets for this will also be at the next meeting. If you have Grandma’s quilt made with lots of love and want to insure it, this is your chance to figure out what it is worth, dollar wise, not just love wise. If there are openings during the show, she will take “walk-ins” as well. Please contact Barb Hamernik at firstname.lastname@example.org or Stella Day at email@example.com for availability.
Please consider signing up for Margaret Miller’s classes during the quilt show. The class is at the Wingate by Wyndham, 7400 SW Old Farm Blvd, Bentonville, AR 72712 near the quilt show and is from 9 to 4. Her first class does require a sewing machine. It is “Samplin Angle Play”. You don’t have to have one of her templet sets; she will have some there for you to use and try, and some to buy if you want. But she feels that until you know what ones you want – wait.
The other class is “Smashing Sets for Sampler Blocks”. There is no machine required for this. It is with graph paper and ideas. If you have blocks that you don’t know how to set – this is the perfect class to solve this problem! If you want to set a quilt differently than the norm – this is also your chance to find out how. Her classes are $50 for each and she is coming to us from the state of Washington. She is one fun teacher and you will have a great time.
See the supply list for what you will need for these classes.
